This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This order, which comes into force on 1 January 2010, implements New Zealand’s commitments on tariff reduction and removal for imports originating under the ASEAN–Australia–New Zealand Free Trade Area agreement (the AANZFTA).
This order provides that from 1 January 2010 certain goods of AANZFTA origin (making up 84.6% of tariff items) can enter New Zealand duty-free. On 1 January each year thereafter, remaining tariffs on AANZFTA imports will be reduced or removed until on 1 January 2020 all tariffs on AANZFTA originating goods will have been eliminated. The tariffs on some sensitive items (9.7% of tariff items) such as clothing, footwear, carpets, wooden furniture, and some steel products will be eliminated between 2017 and 2020.
The order also corrects several minor tariff errors of an historical nature unrelated to the AANZFTA.
