His Excellency the Governor-General in Council

Pursuant to section 4(1) of the Marine Reserves Act 1971, His Excellency the Governor-General makes the following order, acting—

  • (a) on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council; and

  • (b) on the recommendation of the Minister of Conservation given—

    • (i) with the concurrence of the Minister of Transport and the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture; and

    • (ii) after the requirements of sections 4(2) and 5 of the Marine Reserves Act 1971 have been met.


1  Title
  • This order is the Marine Reserve (Tāwharanui) Order 2011.

2  Commencement
  • This order comes into force on 15 September 2011.

3  Tāwharanui Marine Reserve created
  • The area described in the Schedule is declared to be a marine reserve known as the Tāwharanui Marine Reserve.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order, which comes into force on 15 September 2011, creates the Tāwharanui Marine Reserve.

The marine reserve is located north of Auckland on the north coast of the Tāwharanui Peninsula.

Issued under the authority of the Acts and Regulations Publication Act 1989.

Date of notification in Gazette: 18 August 2011.

This order is administered by the Department of Conservation.
