Pursuant to section 2 of the Corrections (Mothers with Babies) Amendment Act 2008, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council, makes the following order.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order brings the Corrections (Mothers with Babies) Amendment Act 2008 into force on 19 September 2011.

That Act amends the Corrections Act 2004 so as to enable female prisoners to keep children under the age of 24 months with them provided that certain criteria and conditions are met. At present, the Corrections Regulations 2005 enable them to keep children under the age of 9 months with them.
