Pursuant to section 186A of the Fisheries Act 1996, the Minister for Primary Industries, after complying with the requirements of that section, gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title
  • This notice is the Fisheries (Umupuia Beach Temporary Closure) Notice 2012.

2 Commencement
  • This notice comes into force on 26 October 2012.

3 Expiry
  • This notice expires on the close of 25 October 2014.

4 Umupuia Beach closed in respect of cockles for 2 years
  • (1) A person must not take cockles from Umupuia Beach while this notice is in force.

    (2) In this clause,—

    cockle means the mollusc Austrovenus stutchburyi

    Umupuia Beach means that area of New Zealand fisheries waters that lies within an area enclosed by a line that—

    • (a) commences at the mean high-water springs at Te Puea at the western end of the beach known as Umupuia Beach (at 36°53.77′S and 175°03.82′E); then

    • (b) proceeds in a straight line in a south-easterly direction to Whakakaiwhara Point (at 36°54.05′S and 175°05.88′E); then

    • (c) proceeds along the mean high-water springs to the point of commencement.

5 Revocation

Dated at Wellington this 25th day of September 2012.

This notice, which comes into force on 26 October 2012, prohibits the taking of cockles from Umupuia Beach for a period of 2 years.
