Heavy Engineering Research Levy Notice 2013

Pursuant to section 5 of the Heavy Engineering Research Levy Act 1978, the Minister of Science and Innovation, on the recommendation of the New Zealand Heavy Engineering Research Association Incorporated and after consultation with the New Zealand Engineering Federation Incorporated, gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title
  • This notice is the Heavy Engineering Research Levy Notice 2013.

2 Commencement
  • This notice comes into force on 1 July 2013.

3 Rates of research levy
  • The research levy under the Heavy Engineering Research Levy Act 1978 is payable,—

    • (a) in the case of the levied items specified in Schedule 2 of the Act, at the rate of $10 for each tonne (apportioned rateably in respect of goods weighing less than 1 tonne); and

    • (b) in the case of the levied items specified in Schedule 3 of the Act, at the rate of 5 cents for each kilogram (apportioned rateably in respect of goods weighing less than 1 kilogram).

4 Revocation

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice, which comes into force on 1 July 2013, prescribes the rates of the research levy payable under the Heavy Engineering Research Levy Act 1978 (the Act).

The notice—

  • increases the levy rate for items specified in Schedule 2 of the Act from $5 per tonne to $10 per tonne:

  • continues the levy rate of 5 cents per kilogram for items specified in Schedule 3 of the Act.

This notice is made following consultation with the New Zealand Engineering Federation Incorporated (formerly the New Zealand Manufacturing Engineers Federation Incorporated).

This notice revokes the Heavy Engineering Research Levy Notice 2003 (SR 2003/6).
