Pursuant to section 91H of the Education Act 1989, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council, makes the following order.

Order

1 Title

This order is the Education (2014 School Staffing) Amendment Order 2013.

2 Commencement

This order comes into force on 13 September 2013.

3 Principal order

This order amends the Education (2014 School Staffing) Order 2013 (the principal order).

4 New clause 62A inserted (Secondary students enrolled in combined secondary-tertiary courses)

After clause 62, insert:

62A Secondary students enrolled in combined secondary-tertiary courses

(1)

Every secondary student enrolled in a combined secondary-tertiary course must be treated as a fraction of a full-time student calculated in accordance with the following formula:

a = b ÷ (b + c)

where—

a

is the fraction of a full-time student calculation result

b

is the average number of hours of secondary schooling tuition the student receives or is to receive in a week

c

is the average number of tertiary learning hours the student receives or is to receive in a week.

For the purposes of this clause, combined secondary-tertiary course means a course of combined secondary and tertiary education for a secondary student that the Secretary has, by notice in writing to the school where the student is enrolled, approved as a course to which this clause applies.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order, which comes into force on 13 September 2013, amends the Education (2014 School Staffing) Order 2013 (the principal order). The amendment inserts into the principal order new clause 62A, which provides that every secondary student enrolled in a combined secondary-tertiary course must be treated as a fraction of a full-time student calculated in accordance with a specified formula.
