Pursuant to section 113C of the Fisheries Act 1996, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Trade gives the following notice.

  • This notice is the Fisheries (High Seas Fishing Notifications—Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna) Amendment Notice 2014.

2 Commencement
  • This notice comes into force on the 28th day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

Conservation and management measures

The conservation and management measures adopted by the Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna are—

  • (a) Resolution on amendment of the Resolution on Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported Fishing (IUU) and Establishment of a CCSBT Record of Vessels over 24 meters Authorized to Fish for Southern Bluefin Tuna (adopted at CCSBT 15 in 2008):

  • (b) Resolution on the Establishment of a Record of Authorised Farms (adopted at CCSBT 15 in 2008, as amended at the fifth meeting of the Compliance Committee in 2010):

  • (c) Resolution on Establishing the CCSBT Vessel Monitoring System (adopted at CCSBT 15 in 2008):

  • (d) Resolution on the Implementation of a CCSBT Catch Documentation Scheme (adopted at CCSBT 15 in 2008, as amended at CCSBT 17 in 2010, CCSBT 19 in 2012, and CCSBT 20 in 2013):

  • (e) Resolution on Establishing a Program for Transshipment by Large-Scale Fishing Vessels (adopted at CCSBT 15 in 2008):

  • (f) Recommendation to Mitigate the Impact on Ecologically Related Species of Fishing for Southern Bluefin Tuna (adopted at CCSBT 15 in 2008, and amended at CCSBT 18 in 2011 as in Attachment 17 to the report of that meeting):

  • (g) Recommendations for Ecologically Related Species (adopted at CCSBT 5 in 1999 as in Attachment 29 to the first part of the report of that meeting) adopting Guidelines for Design and Deployment of Tori Lines (adopted at CCSBT 5 in 1999 as in Attachment 30 to the first part of the report of that meeting):

  • (h) Recommendations to the Commission relating to Ecologically Related Species (adopted at CCSBT 4 in 1998 as in Attachment U to the first part of the report of that meeting). This Recommendation requires mandatory use by all Commission parties of Tori poles in all long-line Southern Bluefin Tuna fisheries below 30°S:

  • (i) Resolution on Action Plans to Ensure Compliance with Conservation and Management Measures (adopted at CCSBT 16 in 2009):

  • (j) Rules and Procedures for the Protection, Access to, and Dissemination of Data Compiled by the CCSBT (adopted at CCSBT 17 in 2010, and amended at CCSBT 18 in 2011 as in Attachment 19 to the report of that meeting):

  • (k) Resolution on the Adoption of a Management Procedure (adopted at CCSBT 18 in 2011 as in Attachment 12 to the report of that meeting):

  • (l) Resolution on Limited Carry-forward of Unfished Annual Total Allowable Catch of Southern Bluefin Tuna within Three Year Quota Blocks (adopted at CCSBT 18 in 2011 as in Attachment 13 to the report of that meeting):

  • (m) Resolution on the Allocation of the Global Total Allowable Catch (adopted at CCSBT 18 in 2011 as in Attachment 15 to the report of that meeting):

  • (n) Resolution on Reporting all Sources of Mortality of Southern Bluefin Tuna (adopted at CCSBT 19 in 2012):

  • (o) Protocol for Ecologically Related Species Working Group Data Exchange (adopted at CCSBT 19 in 2012 as in Attachment 11 to the report of that meeting):

  • (p) Resolution on Establishing a List of Vessels Presumed to have Carried Out Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing Activities for Southern Bluefin Tuna (adopted at CCSBT 20 in 2013).

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice amends the Fisheries (High Seas Fishing Notifications—Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna) Notice 2009. This notice comes into force on the 28th day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

The amendment updates the list of international conservation and management measures that have been adopted by the Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna.
