This notice, which comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette, is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). This notice relates to the area/rohe moana for which Te Rūnanga o Ōtākou represents the whānau and hapū of Ngāi Tahu Whānui who hold manawhenua and manamoana. It gives notice of—
the cancellation of previous appointments of persons as Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki:
the appointment of replacement Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for 5-year terms under regulation 10(2) of the regulations:
the reappointment of existing Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for further 5-year terms under regulation 9(5) of the regulations.
A Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki may authorise any individual to take fisheries resources managed under the Fisheries Act 1996 for customary food-gathering purposes within the whole or any part of the area/rohe moana. It is an offence to take any of those resources for customary food-gathering purposes without such authorisation.
