Pursuant to regulation 22 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title
  • This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Waitutu Mātaitai Reserve and Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki) Notice 2014.

2 Commencement
  • This notice comes into force on the 28th day after the date of its notification in the Gazette (the commencement date).

3 Notification of Waitutu Mātaitai Reserve
  • (1) A mātaitai reserve (to be known as the Waitutu Mātaitai Reserve) has been declared under regulation 20 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 over the area enclosed by a line—

    • (a) commencing at a point on the mean high-water mark at the western side of the Wairaurahiri River mouth at 46°15.75′S and 167°12.86′E; then

    • (b) proceeding in a southerly direction for approximately 450 metres (0.24 nautical miles) to a point offshore at 46°15.99′S and 167°12.83′E; then

    • (c) proceeding in a westerly direction for approximately 3 kilometres (1.62 nautical miles) to a point offshore at 46°15.87′S and 167°10.38′E; then

    • (d) proceeding in a northerly direction to a point on the mean high-water mark east of the mouth of the Crombie Stream at 46°15.51′S and 167°10.43′E; then

    • (e) proceeding in a generally easterly direction along the mean high-water mark to the point of commencement specified in paragraph (a).

    (2) The declaration of the reserve takes effect on the commencement date.

4 Notification of appointment of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki
  • (1) The Minister for Primary Industries has appointed the following Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the Waitutu Mātaitai Reserve, each for a term of 5 years:

    • (a) Graham Metzger:

    • (b) John Simon:

    • (c) Larraine White.

    (2) The appointment of the Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki takes effect on the commencement date.

5 Notification of appointment of additional Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki
  • (1) The Minister for Primary Industries has appointed the following additional Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the Waitutu Mātaitai Reserve, each for a term of 5 years:

    • (a) Jane Davis:

    • (b) Dene Cole.

    (2) The appointment of the Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki takes effect on 12 December 2014.
