This notice, which comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette, is made under regulation 10 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations).
The notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana for which the members of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae hold mana whenua and mana moana. It gives notice of the Minister for Primary Industries’ decision to—
The Minister made the decisions at the request of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae, in accordance with regulation 10(1) and (2) of the regulations.
Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki may, within their area/rohe moana, authorise individuals to take, for customary food gathering purposes, fisheries resources managed under the Fisheries Act 1996. It is an offence to take those resources for customary food gathering purposes without such authorisation.
