Fisheries (Notification of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Mangamaunu, Oaro, and Te Waha o te Marangai Mātaitai) Notice 2014

Pursuant to regulation 22(1)(c) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

1 Title
  • This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Mangamaunu, Oaro, and Te Waha o te Marangai Mātaitai) Notice 2014.

2 Commencement
  • This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Interpretation
  • In this notice, unless the context otherwise requires,—

    Mangamaunu Mātaitai means the area described in clause 1 of Schedule 4 of the Kaikōura (Te Tai o Marokura) Marine Management Act 2014

    Oaro Mātaitai means the area described in clause 2 of Schedule 4 of the Kaikōura (Te Tai o Marokura) Marine Management Act 2014

    Te Waha o te Marangai Mātaitai means the area described in clause 3 of Schedule 4 of the Kaikōura (Te Tai o Marokura) Marine Management Act 2014.

4 Notification of appointment of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki
  • (1) The Minister for Primary Industries has appointed the following Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the Mangamaunu Mātaitai, Oaro Mātaitai, and Te Waha o te Marangai Mātaitai:

    • (d) Nukuroa Nash:

    • (e) Gina Solomon:

    • (f) Sir Mark Solomon:

    • (g) Tai Stirling:

    • (h) Adan Te Huia:

    • (i) Keepa Te Rangihiwinui Timms:

    • (j) Ma-rea Unahi:

    • (k) Debbie Walford:

    • (l) Owen Woods.

    (2) The appointments—

    • (a) took effect on 21 August 2014; and

    • (b) expire at the close of 20 August 2019.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice, which comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette, is made under regulation 22(1)(c) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999. This notice names 12 Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki who were appointed for 3 mātaitai reserves declared under the Kaikōura (Te Tai o Marokura) Marine Management Act 2014.

A Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki may authorise any individual to take fish, aquatic life, or seaweed managed under the Fisheries Act 1996 for customary food-gathering purposes from within the whole or any part of the reserves.
