This notice, which comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette, is made under regulation 23 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It is revoked at the close of 21 August 2019.
The notice relates to the mātaitai reserve of which the members of Te Rūnanga o Moeraki are the tangata whenua. It gives notice of the Minister for Primary Industries’ decision to—
The Minister made the decisions at the request of Te Rūnanga o Moeraki, in accordance with regulations 23(1) and (2) of the regulations.
Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for a mātaitai reserve may, in relation to the reserve,—
ask the Minister to recommend the making of regulations to allow commercial fishing of certain species:
make bylaws restricting or prohibiting the taking of fisheries resources managed under the Fisheries Act 1996:
authorise the taking of fisheries resources for the purpose of sustaining the functions of a marae:
authorise the relocation of fisheries resources for the purpose of enhancing stocks.
