This notice, which comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette, is made under regulations 9 and 10 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998 (the regulations).
This notice relates to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana notified in the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 10) 2002 (Gazette 2002, p 4541).
This notice confirms the Minister for Primary Industries’ decision to cancel the appointment of Puke Taituha as a Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki (Tangata Kaitiaki) of the area/rohe moana. The Minister cancelled this appointment at the request of the tangata whenua of the area/rohe moana, in accordance with regulation 10(1) of the regulations.
This notice also confirms the Minister’s decisions to appoint Piri Taurua, Riki Ashby, and Tammy Peri as Tangata Kaitiaki of the area/rohe moana. The Minister appointed—
Riki Ashby as an additional Tangata Kaitiaki, in accordance with regulation 9(1) of the regulations; and
Piri Taurua and Tammy Peri to replace Puke Taituha and Keith Ashby as Tangata Kaitiaki, in accordance with regulation 10(2) of the regulations. The cancellation of Keith Ashby’s appointment was confirmed in the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 3) 2008 (Gazette 2008, p 1523).
