Pursuant to regulations 9 and 10 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Rūnanga o Moeraki) Notice 2015.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on 12 June 2015.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked on 12 June 2020.

4 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 2(c) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 19) 2000 (Gazette 2000, p 1437), which is an area in North Otago between the Waitaki River and the Shag River.

5 Appointment cancelled

(1)

The Minister for Primary Industries has cancelled the appointment of Desmond Tipa as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The cancellation takes effect at the close of 10 June 2015.

6 New appointment

(1)

The Minister for Primary Industries has appointed Nola Tipa as a Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The appointment—

(a)

takes effect on 12 June 2015; and

(b)

expires at the close of 11 June 2020.

7 Reappointment

(1)

The Minister for Primary Industries has appointed Joseph Taurima for a further term as a Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The appointment—

(a)

takes effect on 11 June 2015; and

(b)

expires at the close of 10 June 2020.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on 12 June 2015 and revokes itself on 12 June 2020.

This notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Te Rūnanga o Moeraki. The area/rohe moana is located in North Otago in an area of South Island fisheries waters between the Waitaki River and the Shag River.

Notice is given of—

  • the cancellation of an appointment of a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the customary food gathering area/rohe moana:

  • the appointment of a replacement Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the customary food gathering area/rohe moana:

  • the reappointment of a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the customary food gathering area/rohe moana.

The Minister for Primary Industries took these actions under regulations 10(1), 10(2), and 9(5) of the regulations, respectively, at the request of Te Rūnanga o Moeraki.

The Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for a customary food gathering area/rohe moana may authorise any individual to take fish, aquatic life, or seaweed for customary food gathering purposes from within the area/rohe moana.
