Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Rūnanga o Awarua) Notice 2016

Pursuant to regulation 9(5) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Rūnanga o Awarua) Notice 2016.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked on 5 February 2021.

4 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 2(c) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 2) 2011 (Gazette 2011, p 253), which is an area seaward and inland from Piopiotahi to Tokatā (Milford Sound to the Nuggets).

5 Reappointment

(1)

The Minister for Primary Industries has appointed Sharon Malofie for a further term of 5 years as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The appointment—

(a)

took effect on 4 February 2016; and

(b)

expires at the end of 4 February 2021.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette and revokes itself on 5 February 2021.

This notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Te Rūnanga o Awarua. The area/rohe moana is an area seaward and inland from Piopiotahi to Tokatā (Milford Sound to the Nuggets).

Notice is given of Sharon Malofie’s reappointment, for an appointment that expired at the end of 4 February 2016. The Minister for Primary Industries made the reappointment under regulation 9(5) of the regulations. The Minister did so at the request of Te Rūnanga o Awarua.

The Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for a customary food gathering area/rohe moana may authorise any individual to take fish, aquatic life, or seaweed for customary food gathering purposes from within the area/rohe moana.
