Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Mātaitai Reserve at Kaihoka Point and Anatori) Notice 2016

Pursuant to regulation 22 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Mātaitai Reserve at Kaihoka Point and Anatori) Notice 2016.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked on the fifth anniversary of the date of its commencement.

4 Mātaitai reserve

This notice applies to the mātaitai reserve at Kaihoka Point and Anatori, on the upper West Coast of the South Island, that was declared by the Fisheries (Declaration and Notification of Kaihoka and Anatori Mataitai Reserve and Appointment of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki) Notice 2010 (Gazette 2010, p 4254).

5 New appointments

The Minister for Primary Industries has appointed the following people as Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserve:

(a)

John Ward-Holmes:

(b)

Lauralee Duff.

(2)

The appointments—

(a)

take effect on the commencement of this notice; and

(b)

expire 5 years after the commencement of this notice.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette and revokes itself on the fifth anniversary of the date of its commencement.

This notice relates to the mātaitai reserve at Kaihoka Point and Anatori, on the upper West Coast of the South Island. The tangata whenua of the area that includes the mātaitai reserve are represented by Ngāti Tama ki Te Waipounamu Trust, Te Ātiawa o Te Waka-a-Māui Trust, and Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Rārua.

Notice is given of the appointment for the mātaitai reserve of 2 Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki whose previous appointments have expired. The Minister for Primary Industries made the appointments under regulation 21 after seeking nominations under regulation 22(4). The Minister made the appointments at the request of Ngāti Tama ki Te Waipounamu Trust and Te Ātiawa o Te Waka-a-Māui Trust.

The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.
