Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Mātaitai Reserve at Port Levy (Potiriwi)/Koukourārata) Notice 2016

Pursuant to regulation 22 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Mātaitai Reserve at Port Levy (Potiriwi)/Koukourārata) Notice 2016.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked on 17 August 2021.

4 Mātaitai reserve

This notice applies to the mātaitai reserve at Port Levy (Potiriwi)/Koukourārata on Banks Peninsula that was declared by the Fisheries (Declaration of Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2000 (Gazette 2000, p 4350).

5 Reappointment

(1)

The Minister for Primary Industries has appointed Doug Timothy for a further term of 5 years as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserve.

(2)

The appointment—

(a)

took effect on 18 August 2016; and

(b)

expires at the end of 17 August 2021.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette and revokes itself on 17 August 2021.

The notice relates to the mātaitai reserve at Port Levy (Potiriwi)/Koukourārata, on Banks Peninsula. The tangata whenua of the area that includes the mātaitai reserve are represented by Te Rūnanga o Koukourārata.

Notice is given of the reappointment of a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki whose appointment expired at the end of 17 August 2016.

The Minister made the reappointment under regulation 22(3) of the regulations. The Minister did so at the request of Te Rūnanga o Koukourārata.

The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.
