Explanatory note

This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.

These regulations, which come into force on 30 September 2016, amend the Electronic Identity Verification Regulations 2013 (the principal regulations). The principal regulations are made under the Electronic Identity Verification Act 2012 (the Act).

The Act provides for the Electronic Identity Verification Service (the Service) which, among other things, enables a person to verify his or her identity online in order to meet the identification requirements of participating agencies in relation to certain transactions and services. The Service also enables entities that are declared by regulations to be participating agencies to verify a person’s identity by electronic means, provided that they have the person’s consent.

These regulations add 2 classes of bodies and 7 named bodies to the list of bodies declared by regulation 4 of the principal regulations to be participating agencies for the purposes of the Act.

Issued under the authority of the Legislation Act 2012.

Date of notification in Gazette: 29 September 2016.

These regulations are administered by the Department of Internal Affairs.
