Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Rongomaiwahine) Notice 2016

Pursuant to regulation 9 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, the Minister for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Rongomaiwahine) Notice 2016.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana described in clause 3(a) of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 2) 2007 (Gazette 2007, p 791), which is an area from Paritu to Waikokopu.

4 Tangata whenua of area/rohe moana

The whānau, hapū, and marae specified in clause 4 of the Gazette notice referred to in clause 3 are the tangata whenua of the area/rohe moana.

5 Appointment

(1)

The Minister for Primary Industries has appointed Clarke Matakino Whaanga as a Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The appointment took effect on 1 October 2016.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998 and comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

This notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana for which the whānau, hapū, and marae of Rongomaiwahine hold manawhenua manamoana. The area/rohe moana is an area from Paritu to Waikokopu.

Notice is given of the appointment of Clarke Matakino Whaanga as an additional Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki with effect from 1 October 2016. The Minister for Primary Industries made the appointment at the request of the Mahia Maori Committee.

The Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for a customary food gathering area/rohe moana may authorise any individual to take fish, aquatic life, or seaweed for customary food gathering purposes from within the area/rohe moana.
