Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order, which comes into force on 11 August 2017, prescribes the Social Security Act 1964 for the purposes of paragraph (f) of the definition of children’s agencies in section 5(1) of the Vulnerable Children Act 2014. In effect, this order ensures that the Ministry of Social Development (the agency that administers the Social Security Act 1964) remains a children’s agency even though responsibility for the administration of the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 has been transferred from the Ministry of Social Development to the Ministry for Vulnerable Children, Oranga Tamariki (which came into being on 1 April 2017).

Issued under the authority of the Legislation Act 2012.

Date of notification in Gazette: 10 August 2017.

This order is administered by the Ministry for Vulnerable Children, Oranga Tamariki.
