Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Wairewa Rūnanga) Notice 2018

Pursuant to regulation 9 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister of Fisheries gives the following notice.

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Wairewa Rūnanga) Notice 2018.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked at the end of 12 December 2022.

4 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 2(d) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 37) 2002 (Gazette 2002, p 4486), which is an area on Banks Peninsula, from the Hakatere River to Ounu Hau Point, but excluding Te Waihora (Lake Ellesmere) and Lake Forsyth.

5 Reappointments

The Minister of Fisheries has appointed the following people for a further term as Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana:

(2)

The appointments—

(a)

took effect on 13 December 2017; and

(b)

expire at the end of 12 December 2022.

6 Revocation

The following notices are revoked:

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). The notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette and revokes itself on 12 December 2022.

The notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Wairewa Rūnanga. The area/rohe moana is on Banks Peninsula, from the Hakatere River to Ounu Hau Point, but excluding Te Waihora (Lake Ellesmere) and Lake Forsyth.

Notice is given of the reappointment of 3 Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana. The Minister of Fisheries made the reappointments at the request of Wairewa Rūnanga.

The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.
