Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Titahi-Ngāruahine) Notice 2018

Pursuant to regulation 10 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Titahi-Ngāruahine) Notice 2018.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 2(d) of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 2) 2011 (Gazette 2011, p 860), which is an area in Taranaki, from the Oeo Stream to the Taungatara Stream.

4 Tangata whenua

The tangata whenua of the area/rohe moana are Titahi-Ngāruahine represented by the Oeo Pā Trustees.

5 Appointment cancelled

(1)

The Minister of Fisheries has cancelled the appointment of Tyrone Titi as a Tangata Kaitiaki /Tiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The cancellation took effect at the end of 10 December 2017.

6 New appointment

(1)

The Minister of Fisheries has appointed Lenovo Uka as a Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The appointment took effect on 11 December 2017.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998 (the regulations). The notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

The notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by the Oeo Pā Trustees. The area/rohe moana is in Taranaki, from the Oeo Stream to the Taungatara Stream, and extending seawards approximately 5 kilometres.

Notice is given of—

  • the cancellation of the appointment of a Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the area/rohe moana; and

  • the appointment of a replacement.

The Minister of Fisheries cancelled the appointment and made the replacement appointment at the request of the Oeo Pā Trustees.

The powers of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki are set out in the regulations.
