Fisheries (Notification of Te Rae o Kohi Mātaitai Reserve and Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki) Notice 2018

Pursuant to regulation 25 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Te Rae o Kohi Mātaitai Reserve and Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki) Notice 2018.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on the 28th day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Notification of mātaitai reserve

(1)

This notice applies to Te Rae o Kohi Mātaitai Reserve, which is over a coastal strip between Wahieroa (near the Rangitaiki River) and the Maraetotara Stream (at Ohope), that is declared by the Fisheries (Declaration of Te Rae o Kohi Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2018.

The declaration of the mātaitai reserve takes effect on the commencement of this notice.

4 Appointments

The Minister of Fisheries has appointed the following people as Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the mātaitai reserve:

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998 (the regulations). It comes into force on the 28th day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

The notice relates to Te Rae o Kohi Mātaitai Reserve, which is over a coastal strip between Wahieroa (near the Rangitaiki River) and the Maraetotara Stream (at Ohope). The tangata whenua of the area that includes the mātaitai reserve are represented by Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Awa.

Notice is given of the declaration of the mātaitai reserve and the appointment of 9 Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the mātaitai reserve. The Minister of Fisheries made the appointments at the request of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Awa.

The powers of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki are set out in the regulations.
