Fisheries (Notification of Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Ngati Tamainupo) Notice 2018

Pursuant to regulation 10 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Ngati Tamainupo) Notice 2018.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 2(d) of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 14) 2010 (Gazette 2010-go7065), which is an area in the Waikato extending from Matawha Point to Waipohutukawa and includes Raglan Harbour.

4 Tangata whenua

The tangata whenua of the area/rohe moana are Ngati Tamainupo as represented by Mai Uenuku ki te Whenua Marae.

5 Appointment cancelled

(1)

The Minister of Fisheries has cancelled the appointment of Kerry Mason as a Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The cancellation took effect at the end of 14 May 2018.

6 New appointment

(1)

The Minister of Fisheries has appointed Kepa Hiini as a Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the area/rohe moana.

The appointment took effect on 15 May 2018.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998 (the regulations). It comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

The notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Mai Uenuku ki te Whenua Marae. The area/rohe moana is in the Waikato and extends from Matawha Point to Waipohutukawa and includes Raglan Harbour.

Notice is given of the cancellation of the appointment of a Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the area/rohe moana and the appointment of a replacement. The Minister of Fisheries cancelled the appointment and made the replacement appointment at the request of Mai Uenuku ki te Whenua Marae.

The powers of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki are set out in the regulations.
