This notice is administered by the Ministry for Primary Industries.

Pursuant to section 186B of the Fisheries Act 1996, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries, after complying with the requirements of that section, gives the following notice.

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Kaikōura–Wakatu Quay Temporary Closure) Notice 2018.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on 9 November 2018.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked on the close of 31 July 2019.

4 Area closed for taking of fish, aquatic life, or seaweed

(1)

A person must not take any species of fish, aquatic life, or seaweed from the Kaikōura–Wakatu Quay closure area.

(2)

In this clause, Kaikōura–Wakatu Quay closure area means all those South Island fisheries waters enclosed by a line—

(a)

commencing at a point at the North Wharf (at 42°24.79′S and 173°42.19′E); then

(b)

proceeding in a straight line in a north-easterly direction to a point at Nine Pin Rock (at 42°24.54′S and 173°42.32′E); then

(c)

proceeding in a straight line in a south-easterly direction to a point at St Kilda Rocks (at 42°24.80′S and 173°42.80′E); then

(d)

proceeding in a straight line in a south-westerly direction to a point at 42°25.01′S and 173°42.57′E; then

(e)

proceeding in a straight line in a westerly direction to a point on the coast (at 42°25.02′S and 173°42.50′E); then

(f)

proceeding in a north-westerly direction along the mean high-water springs mark of the coast of the South Island to the point of commencement.

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice prohibits the taking of any species of fish, aquatic life, or seaweed from the Kaikōura–Wakatu Quay closure area. This notice comes into force on 9 November 2018 and is revoked on 31 July 2019.
