Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Rūnanga o Awarua—Ashwell Whanau) Notice 2018

Pursuant to regulation 10 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister of Fisheries gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Rūnanga o Awarua—Ashwell Whanau) Notice 2018.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked on 10 May 2023.

4 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 2(c) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 8) 2008 (Gazette 2008, p 3297), which is an area that surrounds Te Wehe a Te Wera (The Neck, Stewart Island).

5 Appointment cancelled

(1)

The Minister of Fisheries has cancelled the appointment of Keith Bradshaw as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The cancellation took effect at the end of 10 May 2018.

6 New appointment

(1)

The Minister of Fisheries has appointed Nathan Nilsen as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The appointment—

(a)

took effect on 10 May 2018; and

(b)

expires on 9 May 2023.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette and revokes itself on 10 May 2023.

The notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Te Rūnanga o Awarua, on behalf of the Ashwell Whanau. The area/rohe moana is an area that surrounds Te Wehe a Te Wera (The Neck, Stewart Island).

Notice is given of the cancellation of the appointment of a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana and the appointment of a replacement. The Minister of Fisheries cancelled the appointment and made the replacement at the request of Te Rūnanga o Awarua.

The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.
