These regulations are made under section 347 of the Education Act 1989

(a)

on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council; and

(b)

following consultation with the Privacy Commissioner in accordance with section 347(2) of that Act.

Regulations

1 Title

These regulations are the Education (Education Review Office Authorised to Use National Student Numbers) Regulations 2019.

2 Commencement

These regulations come into force on 1 April 2019.

3 Education Review Office authorised to use national student number

The Education Review Office is an authorised user for the purposes of Part 30 of the Education Act 1989.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.

These regulations, which come into force on 1 April 2019, declare the Education Review Office to be an authorised user for the purposes of Part 30 of the Education Act 1989 (the Act), which relates to assignment and use of national student numbers.

National student numbers are assigned by the Secretary for Education under section 343 of the Act to students enrolled with education providers (and to certain students exempted from enrolment with education providers). An authorised user may use national student numbers for the various purposes set out in section 344(2) of the Act, but only if authorised or required to use them by the Secretary for Education under that section.
