Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Ngāti Kuta-Patukeha) Notice 2019

Pursuant to regulation 10 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, the Minister of Fisheries gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Ngāti Kuta-Patukeha) Notice 2019.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on 13 August 2019.

3 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 4 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 4) 2012 (Gazette 2012, p 2737), which is an area from Taupiri Bay to the Haumi River in the Bay of Islands.

4 Tangata whenua

The tangata whenua of the area/rohe moana are the hapū specified in clause 5 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 4) 2012 (Gazette 2012, p 2737).

5 Appointment cancelled

(1)

The Minister of Fisheries has cancelled the appointment of George Munn as a Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The cancellation took effect at the end of 10 March 2019.

6 New appointment

(1)

The Minister of Fisheries has appointed Clarke Wynyard as a Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the area/rohe moana.

The appointment took effect on 11 March 2019.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998 (the regulations). It comes into force on 13 August 2019.

The notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Ngāti Kuta-Patukeha. The area/rohe moana is an area from Taupiri Bay to the Haumi River in the Bay of Islands.

Notice is given of the cancellation of the appointment of a Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for the area/rohe moana and the appointment of a replacement. The Minister of Fisheries cancelled the appointment and made the replacement appointment at the request of the Karetu Māori Committee, acting on behalf of Ngāti Manu, and endorsed by Ngāti Kuta-Patukeha.

The powers of Tāngata Kaitiaki/Tiaki are set out in the regulations.
