Fisheries (Notification of Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Ngāi Tūmapūhia-ā-Rangi Māori Marae Committee) Notice 2019

Pursuant to regulation 10 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, the Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

Notice

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Ngāi Tūmapūhia-ā-Rangi Māori Marae Committee) Notice 2019.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on 3 December 2019.

3 Interpretation

In this notice,—

existing Gazette notice means the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 5) 2008 (Gazette 2008, p 2214)

Tangata Kaitiaki means a Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki.

4 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 2(d) of the existing Gazette notice, which is an area in the Wairarapa between the Whareama River and the Pahaoa River.

5 Tangata whenua

The tangata whenua of the area/rohe moana are the hapū specified in clause 5 of the existing Gazette notice.

6 Appointment cancelled

(1)

The Minister of Fisheries has cancelled the appointment of Herami Crawford (also known as Herome Ihaka Crawford) as a Tangata Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The cancellation took effect at the end of 4 October 2019.

7 New appointment

(1)

The Minister of Fisheries has appointed Daniel Mason as a Tangata Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The appointment took effect on 5 October 2019.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is given under the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998 (the regulations). It comes into force on 3 December 2019.

The notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by the Ngāi Tūmapūhia-ā-Rangi Māori Marae Committee. The area/rohe moana is an area in the Wairarapa between the Whareama River and the Pahaoa River.

Notice is given of the cancellation of the appointment of a Tangata Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana and the appointment of a replacement. The Minister of Fisheries cancelled the appointment and made the replacement appointment at the request of the Ngāi Tūmapūhia-ā-Rangi Māori Marae Committee.

The powers of Tāngata Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.
