Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Motupōhue Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2019

Pursuant to regulation 22 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister of Fisheries gives the following notice.

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Motupōhue Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2019.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on 5 December 2019.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked at the end of 6 August 2024.

4 Mātaitai reserve

This notice applies to Motupōhue Mātaitai Reserve, in an area along the southern coastline of Bluff Hill (Motupōhue) between Cable Bay and Stirling Point, that was declared by the Fisheries (Declaration of Motupōhue Mātaitai Reserve) Notice 2014.

5 Reappointments

(1)

The Minister of Fisheries has appointed the following people for a further term as Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserve:

Graham Metzger:

(c)

Hana Morgan.

(2)

The appointments—

(a)

took effect on 7 August 2019; and

(b)

expire at the end of 6 August 2024.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is given under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on 5 December 2019 and revokes itself at the end of 6 August 2024.

The notice relates to Motupōhue Mātaitai Reserve, which is in an area along the southern coastline of Bluff Hill (Motupōhue) between Cable Bay and Stirling Point. The tangata whenua of the area that includes the mātaitai reserve are represented by Te Rūnanga o Awarua.

Notice is given of the reappointment of 3 Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the mātaitai reserve. The Minister of Fisheries made the reappointments at the request of Te Rūnanga o Awarua.

The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.
