Supplementary Order Paper No 226

Explanatory note

This Supplementary Order Paper inserts into the Bill a new clause 106G preserving the position of Police employees who are sitting members of local authorities.

Neither elected nor appointed sitting members will have to leave the Police when the Bill comes into force.

For so long as they are not defeated at some future election, elected sitting members—

• will continue to be able to campaign for re-election without having to go on leave of absence; and

• will not have to leave the Police if re-elected.
