“mana whenua representative member means an elected person who has whakapapa links to the iwi or hapū in an identified area who exercise mana whenua

Explanatory note
The Supplementary Order Paper amends the Local Government (Auckland Council) Bill to establish two mana whenua representative seats on the Auckland Council. It meets the original requirements of mana whenua representation expressed by the iwi of Ngati Whatua and Tainui, who exercise mana whenua in Auckland, and enables all Māori living in Auckland who are eligible to vote to participate in their election.
