Juries (Jury Service and Protection of Particulars of Jury List Information) Amendment Bill


Proposed amendments

Hon Judith Collins, in Committee, to move the following amendments:

New clause 7A

After clause 7 (after line 7 on page 4), insert:

7A Further provisions relating to deferral of jury service
  • Section 14C(3) is amended by inserting , 15A, after section 15.

Clause 12: new section 36A

In clause 12, new section 36A(2), after that in line 27 on page 7, insert provision's.

Clause 17: new section 14AB(5)

In clause 17, new section 14AB(5), replace accused (line 3 on page 11) with defendant.

Clause 19: new section 36B(3)

In clause 19, after new section 36B(2) (after line 35 on page 12), insert:

  • (3) Defendant in section 14AB(5) (as inserted by that Part) must, until the commencement of section 7 and the Schedule of the Juries Amendment Act 2011, be read as accused.


Explanatory note

This Supplementary Order Paper sets out amendments to the Juries (Jury Service and Protection of Particulars of Jury List Information) Amendment Bill. The amendments—

  • insert a new clause 7A to amend section 14C(3) as a consequence of the new section 15A substituted by clause 10:

  • correct a drafting error in new section 36A(2) to be inserted by clause 12:

  • ensure that the new section 14AB(5) to be inserted by clause 17 uses, until the commencement of section 7 and the Schedule of the Juries Amendment Act 2011, the term accused (instead of the corresponding term defendant used by the Criminal Procedure Act 2011).
