New clause 14A
After clause 14 (after line 26 on page 22), insert:
14A Recognition of Moriori people
References in this Act to Māori, tikanga Māori, iwi, and the Treaty of Waitangi must be read to include the Moriori people and tikane Moriori in recognition of their special relationship, their culture, and traditions with regard to the marine environment.
The Bill as introduced does not contain reference to the Moriori people, who, like Māori have important historical interests in the exclusive economic zone. This amendment gives the Moriori recognition in this legislation so that their interests might be protected.
