Sue Moroney, in Committee, to move the following amendments:
In clause 382(1), after paragraph (c) (after line 30 on page 235), insert:
(d) prescribing warning labels to set out the health risks of drinking alcohol, including, but not limited to, those risks affecting pregnant women and their unborn children.
In Schedule 3, after Gambling (Prohibited Property) Regulations 2005 (SR 2005/299) (after line 26 on page 268), insert:
New Zealand (Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code) Food Standards 2002
Standard 1.2.8, clause 3(b): revoke paragraph (b).
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Alcohol Reform Bill to ensure that alcoholic beverages are no longer exempt from the requirement to provide a label with a Nutrition Information Panel according to the Food Standards Code of Australia and New Zealand. Alcoholic beverages pose various health risks when consumed in excess and can be particularly harmful to babies if their mother consumes such beverages while pregnant. This will ensure that the consumer has access to vital information before choosing to consume the product.
