Eugenie Sage, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
New Clause 16B
After clause 16 (after line 21 on page 13), insert:
16B Minister may withdraw designation
(1) The Minister may, at any time by notice in the Gazette, withdraw the designation of a herd of game animals as a herd of special interest or restrict the location and area of conservation land where the herd of special interest is managed.
(2) Before withdrawing a designation or restricting the area of conservation land where the herd of special interest is managed the Minister must have regard to the advice of the organisations named in section 16(2).
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Game Animal Council Bill. The Supplementary Order Paper clarifies that the Minister may cancel the designation of a game animal population as a herd of special interest, where for example recreational hunting has failed to control animal numbers adequately and significant damage is occurring to indigenous vegetation and habitats.
