Policing (Cost Recovery) Amendment Bill

Proposed amendments

David Clendon, in Committee, to move the following amendments:

Clause 5

In clause 5, after new section 102A(d) (page 5, after line 30), insert as subsections (2) and (3):

Regulations made under subsection (1) must exempt teachers, as defined in section 378 of the Education Act 1989, who are employed (or are seeking employment) at a state or state-integrated school from any fee or charge prescribed for any demand service relating to police vetting services.

For the avoidance of doubt, regulations made under subsection (2) will include an exemption for police vetting services provided to a teacher or in relation to a teacher.

Explanatory note

This Supplementary Order Paper amends clause 5, by inserting new section 102A(2) and (3), to exempt registered teachers who are employed at state or state-integrated schools from any new cost recovery regime in relation to police vetting services. There would be no fee or charge made to either the teacher requesting the service or any organisation requesting the service in relation to a teacher.
