Education (Update) Amendment Bill

Proposed amendment

Catherine Delahunty, in Committee, to move the following amendment:

Clause 4

In clause 4, new section 1A(2)(e), replace “.” (page 13, line 21) with “; and”, and after paragraph (e) (page 13, after line 21), insert:

(f)

must be consistent with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, and the New Zealand Disability Strategy.

Explanatory note

This Supplementary Order Paper amends clause 4 in the Education (Update) Amendment Bill to require that any statement of National Education and Learning Priorities issued by the Minister is consistent with important national and international conventions and agreements that New Zealand is party to, including taking into account the rights of children, indigenous peoples, women, and those with a disability.
