Electoral (Registration of Sentenced Prisoners) Amendment Bill

Proposed amendments to Supplementary Order Paper No 512

Golriz Ghahraman, in Committee, to move the following amendments:

Clause 5

Replace clause 5 (page 2) with:

5 Section 80 amended (Disqualification for registration)

Repeal section 80(1)(d).

Clause 6

Replace clause 6 (page 3) with:

6 Section 81 repealed (Detention in prison pursuant to sentence of imprisonment)

Repeal section 81.

Clause 7

In clause 7, replace new section 86A(1A) (page 3) with:

(1A)

This section applies when—

(a)

a prisoner who is 18 years or older is received into a prison to serve a sentence of imprisonment; or

(b)

a prisoner turns 18 years while serving a sentence of imprisonment.

In clause 7, delete new section 86B (page 4).

In clause 7, new section 86C(1) (page 4), delete or 86B.

In clause 7, replace new section 86C(2) (page 4) with:

The prison manager must collect the enrolment information provided by a prisoner and send that information to the Electoral Commission as soon as is reasonably practicable after collecting the information.

In clause 7, delete new section 86C(4) (page 5).

New clause 7A

After clause 7 (page 6), insert:

7A Section 98 amended (Removal of names from roll by Electoral Commission)

Repeal section 98(1)(f)(ii).

Explanatory note

This Supplementary Order Paper amends Supplementary Order Paper No 512 to the Electoral (Registration of Sentenced Prisoners) Amendment Bill in order to allow all prisoners to vote.
