An Act to declare the Qualification of Electors for the first Election of Members of the Boards of certain Road Districts in Otago.
Preamble.
WHEREAS by the fourth section of “The Otago Roads Ordinance Amendment Ordinance, 1872,”
the qualification of members to be elected at the first elections under “The Otago Roads Ordinance, 1871,”
to the Boards of certain districts therein specified is defined, but no provision is made in respect of the qualification of the electors at any such election; and it is expedient that provision should be made in that behalf:
Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act shall be “The Otago Roads Ordinances Amendment Act, 1877.”
2 Persons qualified as members to be qualified as electors.
Every person who is qualified in the manner defined in the above-recited provision to be elected as a member at the first elections in the aforesaid provision referred to, shall be qualified as an elector at any such election; and the electors qualified in the manner provided by this Act shall be the persons, and no others, who shall elect the members to be elected at any such first election as aforesaid; and this provision shall be deemed to have been in operation as if it had been originally inserted in the above recited fourth section, at the time of the passing thereof,
3 Repeal.
So much of section two of “The Otago Roads Ordinances Amendment Ordinance, 1872,”
as repeals section twenty-five of “The Otago Roads Ordinance, 1871,”
is hereby repealed.
Section 25 of “The Otago Roads Ordinance, 1871,”
revived and amended.
Section twenty-five of “The Otago Roads Ordinance, 1871,”
is hereby revived, and shall be deemed to have been and to have continued in operation as if it had never been repealed; and in the said section there shall be inserted the words “or any Acts amending the same”
after the words “-The Registration of Electors Act, 1866,”
where they occur in the aforesaid section twenty-five.
