An Act for vesting certain Reserves in the Mayor, Councillors, and Citizens of Christchurch.

Preamble.

WHEREAS the parcels of land described in the Schedules hereto are under the management of the City Council of Christchurch and it is expedient that the same should be vested in the Mayor, Councillors, and Citizens of the said city, as hereinafter set forth:

Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Short Title.

The Short Title of this Act shall be “The Christchurch City Reserves Act, 1877.”

2 Public gardens and promenades.

The parcels of land described in the First Schedule hereto shall be and the same are hereby vested in the Mayor, Councillors, and Citizens of the City of Christchurch, for the use of the inhabitants of the City of Christchurch as public gardens and promenades, subject to such rights of roads or streets as now legally exist over the same.

3 Land in Second Schedule vested in Mayor, Councillors, and Citizens of Christchurch for various purposes.

The parcels of land described in the Second Schedule hereto shall be and the same are hereby vested in the Mayor, Councillors, and Citizens of the City of Christchurch, and the said Mayor, Councillors, and Citizens may from time to time, at their discretion, in respect of the land described in the Second Schedule, exercise all or any of the powers following, but none other:—

(1.)

May erect any buildings for ornamental purposes, but not use the same for any other purpose:

(2.)

May on certain of the said allotments construct watertanks for holding water for use in case of fire, and for watering streets, and for cab stands.

4 Market-place.

The parcels of land described in the Third Schedule hereto shall be and the same are hereby vested in the Mayor, Councillors, and Citizens of the City of Christchurch, in trust for the purposes of a market-place.

5 Fire brigade station.

The parcel of land described in the Fourth Schedule hereto shall be and the same is hereby vested in the Mayor, Councillors, and Citizens of the City of Christchurch, in trust for the purposes of a fire brigade station: Provided that the said Mayor, Councillors, and Citizens of the City of Christchurch shall not be entitled to erect any other buildings or alterations to the free use by the public of the said sections than are necessary for the purposes of the said fire brigade station: And provided also that the Mayor, Councillors, and Citizens of the City of Christchurch may, if they think fit, remove any fence now erected on the said parcel of land.

FIRST SCHEDULE

All that plot of land known as Cranmer Square, bounded on the North by Kilmore Street, on the South by Armagh Street, and on the East and West by roads one chain wide.

All that plot of land known as Latimer Square, bounded on the North by Gloucester Street, on the South by Hereford Street, and on the East and West by roads one chain wide.

All that plot of land situate on the west side of Cathedral Square, and known as the Godley Statue Block, and bounded on the East by the curved portion of Colombo Street, and on the North, South, and West by roads one chain wide.

All that plot of land between Antigua Street and Montreal Street, bounded on the North and North-east by Cambridge Terrace, and on the South and South-west by the River Avon.

All that plot of land lying between Montreal Street and Durham Street, and extending to Cashel Street, and bounded on the North and North-west by Cambridge Terrace, and on the South and South-west by the River Avon.

All that plot of land lying between Cashel Street and Hereford Street, bounded on the West by Cambridge Terrace, and on the East by the River Avon.

All that plot of land lying between Hereford Street and Worcester Street, and bounded on the West by Cambridge Terrace, and on the East by the River Avon.

All that plot of land lying between Worcester Street and Gloucester Street, and bounded on the West and North-west by Cambridge Terrace, and on the East and South-east by the River Avon.

All that plot of land lying between Colombo Street and Manchester Street, and bounded on the West by Colombo Street, and on the North and North-east by Cambridge Terrace, and on the South and South-west by the River Avon.

All that plot of land lying between Manchester Street and Madras Street, and bounded on the North and North-west by Cambridge Terrace, and on the South and South-east by the River Avon.’

All that plot of land lying between Madras Street and Barbadoes Street, and bounded on the North-west by Cambridge Terrace, and on the South-east by the River Avon.

All that plot of land bounded on the West by the Hospital Grounds, on the Southwest by Oxford Terrace, and on the North-east by the River Avon.

All that plot of land lying between Montreal Street and Durham Street and extending to Cashel Street, and bounded on the South and South-east by Oxford Terrace, and on the North and North-west by the River Avon.

All that plot of land lying between Cashel Street and Hereford Street, bounded on the East by Oxford Terrace, and on the West by the River Avon.

All that plot of land lying between Hereford Street and Worcester Street, bounded on the East by Oxford Terrace, on the South-west by the River Avon, and on the North by Worcester Street, except such portion as is now vested in the Mayor, Councillors, and Citizens of the City of Christchurch.

All that plot of land extending from Worcester Street to Gloucester Street, and bounded on the South by Worcester Street, on the East and South-east by Oxford Terrace, and on the West and North-west by the River Avon, except such portion as is now vested in the Mayor, Councillors, and Citizens of the City of Christchurch.

All that plot of land extending from Manchester Street to Madras Street, and bounded on the South-east by Oxford Terrace, and on the North-west by the River Avon.

All that plot of land lying between Madras Street and Barbadoes Street, and bounded on the South-east by Oxford Terrace East, and on the North-west by the River Avon.

SECOND SCHEDULE

All that triangular plot of land bounded on the North-east by the Whately Road, on the West by Montreal Street, and on the South by Section number 102.

All that plot of land bounded on the North-east by the Whately Road, on the South by Peterborough Street, on the West by Section number 100.

All that plot of land bounded on the North by Peterborough Street, on the East by Section number 153, and on the South-west by Whately Road.

All that plot of land bounded on the East by Durham Street, on the North by Section number 152, and on the South-west by Whately Road.

All that plot of land bounded on the North-east by High Street, on the West by Colombo Street, and on the South by Section number 842.

All that plot of land bounded on the North-east by High Street, on the West by Section number 840, and on the South by Cashel Street.

All that plot of land part of the parcel of land called the Market-place, bounded on the South and South-east by the north side of Chester Street and the River Avon, on the North by a road one chain wide fronting on the south side of Christchurch Town Sections numbers 248, 249, 250, 251, 252, 253, and 254, on the West by a road one chain wide fronting east on Sections 257 and 258.

All that plot of land other part of the land called the Market-place, bounded on the East by Colombo Street, on the South by Armagh Street, and on the West and North-west by the River Avon.

FOURTH SCHEDULE

All that plot of land extending from Colombo Street to Manchester Street, bounded on the South and South-west by Oxford Terrace, and on the North and North-east by the River Avon.
