An Act to authorize the Municipal Corporation of the Borough of Invercargill to borrow a further sum of Fifty Thousand Pounds for the Construction or Purchase of Waterworks for the Supply of the Town of Invercargill with Water.

Preamble.

WHEREAS it is expedient to authorize the Municipal Council of the Borough of Invercargill to raise a further sum of fifty thousand pounds for the purpose of constructing or purchasing waterworks for the supply of the Town of Invercargill with water:

BE IT THEREFORE ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Short Title.

The Short Title of this Act shall be “The Invercargill Waterworks Loan Act, 1878.”

2 Interpretation.

The following words and expressions when used in this Act shall have the meanings hereby assigned to them, unless there shall be something in the context repugnant thereto:—

“Council” means the Municipal Council of the Borough of Invercargill.

“The said Act” means “The Invercargill Municipal Council Empowering and Waterworks Loan Act, 1875.”

3 Authority to borrow further sum of £50,000.

The Council may, for the purpose of constructing or purchasing waterworks for the supply of the Town of Invercargill with water, borrow and take up at interest any sum or sums of money not exceeding fifty thousand pounds, in addition to the sum or sums of money which they are authorized to borrow and take up at interest under the provisions of the said Act: Provided always that any such sum of money so borrowed shall be borrowed by way of special loan, in the manner provided by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1876.”
