An Act to provide for the Vesting in the Port Chalmers Mechanics’ Institute of a certain Reserve, being Section numbered Four Hundred and Five on the Public Map of the Town of Port Chalmers.

Preamble.

WHEREAS by Crown grant dated the twenty-fifth day of June, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight, the land described in the Schedule hereto was vested in the Superintendent of the Province of Otago in trust as a site for a Mechanics’ Institute for the inhabitants of Port Chalmers: And whereas by “The Abolition of Provinces Act, 1875,” the said land was vested in Her Majesty the Queen for the purpose aforesaid: And whereas doubts have arisen as to whether the said land can be vested in the said Port Chalmers Mechanics’ Institute without special legislation for such purpose, and it is desirable that such land should be so vested:

Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Short Title.

The Short Title of this Act is “The Port Chalmers Mechanics’ Institute Reserves Vesting Act, 1898.”

2 Act incorporated with Act of 1877.

This Act shall be read and construed with and as part of “The Port Chalmers Mechanics’ Institute Incorporation and Reserves Act, 1877.”

3 Land in Schedule vested in Mechanics’ Institute.

The land mentioned and described in the Schedule to this Act is hereby vested in the Port Chalmers Mechanics’ Institute.

4 Land held by Mechanics’ Institute subject to restriction of its other lands.

The said land shall be held by the Port Chalmers Mechanics’ Institute in the same manner and upon the same terms, and under and subject to the same powers and restrictions, as its other lands are held.

Schedule

All that piece of land, situate in the Town of Port Chalmers, containing by admeasurement 20 perches, more or less, being section numbered 405 on the map of the said town. Bounded towards the north by Mount Street; towards the east by section numbered 11; towards the south-west by sections numbered respectively 48 and 74; and towards the west by section numbered 406: and comprised in a grant from the Crown, dated the 25th day of June, 1868, numbered 7499, to the Superintendent of Otago and his successors, in trust as a site for a Mechanics’ Institute.
