An Act to enable the Oamaru Borough Council to raise a Loan of Four Thousand Pounds under the Provisions of Part II. of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and to empower the Government to grant such Loan to such Council.

Preamble.

WHEREAS the Oamaru Borough Council is desirous of erecting a Town Hall and municipal offices in the Borough of Oamaru, and it has applied to the Colonial Treasurer for a special loan out of the funds mentioned in Part III. of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” for such purpose, and it is expedient that such loan be granted:

Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Short Title.

The Short Title of this Act is “The Oamaru Borough Council Loan Act, 1900.”

2 Interpretation.

(1.)

In this Act, if not inconsistent with the context,—

“The Council” means the Oamaru Borough Council:

“The principal Act” means “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

(2.)

All words used in this Act shall have the same meaning as they respectively have assigned to them by the principal Act.

3 Power to borrow.

(1.)

Notwithstanding anything contained in the principal Act or any amendment thereof, it shall be lawful for the Treasurer to lend to the Council, under the provisions of Part II. of the principal Act, the sum of four thousand pounds for the purpose of the erection in the Borough of Oamaru of a Town Hall and municipal offices, in the same manner and subject in all things to the provisions contained in Part II. of the principal Act with respect to loans authorised to be made for the construction of a public work within the meaning of that part of the principal Act.

Special rate.

(2.)

Before the granting of such loan the Council shall make a special rate for the purpose of paying the interest and other charges thereon, and shall comply with all the provisions of Part I. of the principal Act in the same manner as if the loan hereby authorised to be granted had been a loan authorised by the principal Act.
