An Act to provide for Further Inquiry as to the Circumstances attending the Wreck of the Steamship “Elingamite.”
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
This Act may be cited as the Elingamite Rehearing Act, 1911.
2 Section 243 of Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, extended to case of s.s. “Elingamite.”
(1.)
The provisions of section two hundred and forty-three of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, shall extend and apply to the formal investigation held in the years nineteen hundred and two and nineteen hundred and three into the wreck of the steamship “Elingamite”
if, within three months after the commencement of this Act, application for a rehearing is made by or on behalf of any person who at the time of the wreck was the master or any certificated officer of that steamship.
(2.)
At any such rehearing the Court may accept the evidence given at the said formal investigation, and may, if it thinks fit, receive any new evidence.
