An Act for amending “An Ordinance for establishing Standard Weights and Measures and for the prevention of the use of such as are false and deficient.”
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled and by the authority of the same as follows
I Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act shall be “The Weights and Measures Ordinance Amendment Act 1861.”
II Standard Weights specified in the Schedule to be imported.
In addition to the Standard Weights and Measures to be kept in the Colony under the provisions of an Ordinance passed in the seventh Session of the Legislative Council of New Zealand intituled “An Ordinance establishing Standard Weights and Measures and for the prevention of the use of such as are false and deficient”
the Governor shall cause to be imported into the Colony the Imperial Weights specified in the Schedule to this Act for the public service of the Colony and the same shall be deposited in some convenient place to be appointed by the Governor to be therein safely kept and shall be and are hereby declared to be Standard Weights of the Colony of New Zealand.
III Provisions of the Weights and Measures Ordinance to apply to this Act.
The provisions of the said Ordinance shall so far as they are applicable and subject to the provisions hereinafter contained be deemed to apply to the Standard Weights so to be imported and deposited as aforesaid and to copies and models thereof in like manner as if the provisions of the said Ordinance had been incorporated into this Act.
IV Precious Metals and Stones to be sold according to the Weights and Measures specified in the Schedule.
It shall not be lawful for any person to bargain sell or deliver in payment barter or exchange any precious metals or precious stones by any other weights than the weights specified in the Schedule to this Act.
V Commencement of Act.
This Act shall come into operation from and immediately after the passing thereof so far as regards the importation and deposit of standards the verification of copies and models and the appointment of persons for carrying this Act into execution and in all other respects the Act shall come into operation on some day to be fixed by the Governor in Council and to be notified in the Government Gazette for the Colony.
THE SCHEDULE IMPERIAL TROY WEIGHTS
1 Grain.
1 Pennyweight weighing 24 grains.
20 Pennyweights weighing one ounce.
6 Ounces weighing half-a-pound.
12 Ounces weighing one pound.
