Two Members shall be returned as Gold-Field Representatives for the Province of Otago who shall be elected by persons duly qualified under the “Miners Representation Act 1862.”

IV Representation of Dunedin &c.

Instead of the Electoral District intituled in “the Representation Act 1860” City of Dunedin returning two Members there shall be a District intituled Dunedin and Suburbs North which shall return two Members and a District intituled Dunedin and Suburbs South which shall return two Members which districts are respectively defined and set forth in the Schedule to this Act And all lands included in the said districts shall be excluded from the district of Bruce as defined in the Schedule to the said Act.

V Maps of Districts to be deposited.

The Colonial Secretary shall cause properly authenticated Maps of the said Electoral Districts to be deposited in the office of the Clerk of the said House.

VI Rolls to be formed

Immediately after the passing of this Act the Registration Officer for the District of Bruce and City of Dunedin shall form new Electoral Rolls for the several Electoral Districts constituted by this Act.

VII Instruction for preparing Rolls.

For the purpose of framing such new Electoral Rolls the name of every Elector on the Roll which under the provisions of the “Registration of Electors Act 1858” will come into force on the 1st day of October 1862 of the Electoral Districts of Bruce and City of Dunedin and whose qualification is in respect of lands or tenements situate within either of the Electoral Districts constituted by this Act shall be removed from such Roll and shall be placed on the new Electoral Roll of that one of the Electoral Districts constituted by this Act in which the lands or tenements in respect whereof he is so registered are situate provided that if any Elector on the former Rolls be registered in respect of lands or tenements situate in both of the new districts constituted by this Act the Registration Officer may in forming the new Rolls omit the name of such Elector from the Roll of either or both of the new Electoral Districts within which such Elector may not appear to the Registration Officer to have a sufficient Electoral qualification.

VIII Publication and duration of Rolls.

Upon such new Electoral Rolls being so formed as aforesaid the same shall forthwith be forwarded to the Colonial Secretary and shall be published in such convenient manner as the Governor shall direct and from the day of such publication the Electoral Roll formed for each District shall be the Electoral Roll to be used for such District for all purposes until a revised Electoral Roll for the same shall be in force under the provisions of the law for the time being for the Registration of Electors.

IX Existing Members to represent certain Districts.

The existing two Members for the City of Dunedin shall thenceforth so long as they retain their seats be respectively Members for the new District of Dunedin and Suburbs North and Dunedin and Suburbs South in manner following that is to say the earliest elected Member shall be a Member for the District of Dunedin and Suburbs North and the last elected Member shall be a Member for the District of Dunedin and Suburbs South.

X Time of issue of Writs.

Upon the formation of the aforesaid Electoral Rolls but not earlier than the first day of October 1862 Writs shall be issued for the election of One Member for the District of Dunedin and Suburbs North of one Member for the District of Dunedin and Suburbs South and of the before-mentioned two Gold Fields Representatives.

XI Number of Members may be increased.

Nothing in this Act contained shall prevent the number of Members of the House of Representatives being increased by any Act passed during the present Session of Parliament.

Schedule

The Districts of Dunedin and Suburbs North and Dunedin and Suburbs South shall comprise all lands in the Province of Otago bounded on the North West and West by a right line from the North Western head of Purakanui Harbor to the Trigonometrical Station on Flagstaff Hill thence by a right line to the mouth of the Kaikorai River and on all other sides by the Ocean.

Dunedin and Suburbs North—Two Members—shall comprise all that portion of the aforesaid districts northward of a right line prolonged from the Harbor of Dunedin through the centre of Stuart-street and centre of the Octagon Dunedin until the said line intersects the western boundary of the aforesaid districts.

Dunedin and Suburbs South—Two Members—shall comprise all that portion of the aforesaid districts southward of the aforesaid right line.
