An Act for amending the “Interpretation Act 1858” and for defining the time when Acts of the General Assembly shall come into operation.

Preamble.

Whereas by the Third Section of the “Interpretation Act 1858” it is enacted that every Act of the General Assembly which shall not prescribe the time from which it is intended to take effect and which shall have been assented to in her Majesty’s name shall come into operation on the day on which it shall receive the Governor’s Assent And whereas it is expedient to alter the said Act

Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled and by the authority of the same as follows

I Short Title.

The Short Title of this Act shall be “The Commencement of Acts Act 1862.”

II Repeal of Section 3 of “Interpretation Act 1858.”

The said third Section of the “Interpretation Act 1858” shall be and the same is hereby repealed.

III Acts of the General Assembly to come into force three months after assent.

Every Act of the General Assembly passed after the passing of this Act except Acts for continuing the operation of former Acts and for appropriating Monies for the Public Service which shall not prescribe the time from which it is intended to take effect and which shall have been assented to in Her Majesty’s name shall come into operation at the expiration of three calendar months after the day on which it shall receive the Governor’s Assent and not before.
