The Short Title of this Act shall be “The West Coast Gold Field Provincial Representation Act 1865.”

Two Members shall be returned to the Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury as Representatives for the West Coast Gold Field within the said Province who shall be elected by persons duly qualified under “The Miners’ Representation Act 1862” and “The Miners’ Representation Act Amendment Act 1863.”

The Governor shall upon the passing of this Act with all convenient speed appoint a proper person to be returning officer for the said Gold Field and shall appoint such polling places as he may think fit therein and shall take all such steps as may be necessary to provide for the due election of such Members according to law.

The Superintendent of the said Province shall as soon as possible after the passing of this Act issue a writ and take such other steps as may be necessary for the due return of such Members.

This Act shall remain in force until such time as provision shall have been made by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the said Province for the due representation of the population of the West Coast Gold Field in the said Provincial Council And from and after the day on which such Ordinance shall have received the Governor’s assent this Act shall cease to have any force or effect whatever.
