An Act to define what number of Members of the Legislative Council shall be present to constitute a meeting for the exercise of its powers.
Preamble.
Whereas by the Constitution Act it is provided that the presence of at least five members of the Legislative Council including the Speaker shall be necessary to constitute a meeting for the exercise of its powers
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled and by the authority of the same as follows—
I Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act shall be “The Legislative Council Quorum Act 1865”
II Part of 39th section of the Constitution Act repealed.
So much of the thirty-ninth section of the Constitution Act as provides that the presence of at least five members of the said Council including the Speaker shall be necessary to constitute a meeting for the exercise of its powers is hereby repealed.
III Quorum of Legislative Council.
The necessary number of members of the Legislative Council to constitute a Quorum shall be regulated from time to time by Rules or Orders of the Legislative Council.
